Kind of a story, bare with me... It was a dark and stormy night: I was driving up Rainier and my check engine light came on. I just got this 22 year old car and am not surprised. I was at a stop light and see steam coming from under my hood, note the temp gauge is through the roof hot, stop at a gas station to see what was going on..the overflow for the radiator was bubbling it was so hot! I was close to my destination and decided to keep driving and let it cool down when I got there. After driving a couple more blocks I'm nervous and decide to pull over to let it cool down a bit more. I park (slightly illegally) half way blocking a driveway, periodically looking at the business to make sure I'm not pissing anyone off (it's 6:45 pm so not much issue there), after about 8 minutes I turn the car on enough to see the gagues move...still kind of hot. Try after 5 minutes more and it's cooler so I try to turn the engine over to get to my friends. Car doesn't start?! Ugh! Turned on my hazzards and assess my predicament. I see movement from my right and see the garage door opening, I see a guy looking at me so I get out and apologize that the car engine won't turn over. He says: We work on Toyota's here, want me to move you in? Eff yes, AJ! You and all the employees I had contact with made my day(s). I know towing would have ended up being expensive, especially after hours prices! They got my car evaluated quickly, pricing was reasonable, I was able to easily arrange after hours pick up. Now I have a mechanic I can rely on and will recommend. Thank you all for being awesome ❤️

I've been doing business with Moss Alley for decades with several cars. They are fair and honest....not necessarily cheap but the workmanship is great. To a one they are nice people as well.

Moss Alley takes great care of me and of our car. By me, I mean, they quickly and clearly keep me informed about the status, cost, and timing of our car's repairs and give me an estimate of how much wear I might still get out of consumable parts.

Efficient, on time and clear estimates.

I've been taking all my cars (volvo & Toyotas) to Moss Alley for over 20 years. They are fast, honest, communicative and nice! And they're in the city which is super convenient. Not many great auto shops left in the city center.

Where to begin... the shop did not make me furious, the "manager", not sure that's the correct title, 'AJ' tried to rip me off. I own a 2006 Land Rover, and I recently drove it 3,000 miles across country, from Alaska to Seattle, with a very heavy load. It is an older car, and it did have a cv joint rip out of the wheel (axle part) in the mountains of British Columbia, plagued by construction. Being a robust tank of a vehicle, I managed to continue to drive it 650 miles across the US/CAN border and to my new home in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The axle did fail after I hit something very hard in the road surface, possibly a pot hole, that blew my tire. That is when the axle joint popped out. Its not a crazy issue, but something did happen with the brakes, that I had to take care of on the trip, limiting the braking action of a 6,000 lb vehicle, though they still do work. I took it to Moss Alley Motors as my insurance suggested them, only 2 blocks away from where I live, but now I scour every time I travel pass that building. Of course it is an auto shop, so they want to get every penny from you - not to say that some of the employees there were very professional and customer service oriented. However, the mechanical write-up was a bit much, so I tried to negotiate on what work they could do for me and what I would do myself - it is Seattle, cars are certainly not a priority. The main issue with the vehicle is that right before it arrived at the shop, it over-heated, and that can be very detrimental to Jaguar engines. I took a look at their write-up, and when the insurance declined to cover the costs, due to it being deemed normal wear-and-tear, I decided I needed them to only really do the brake job and overheating problem, as the axle part only cost $100, and could be done easily at home. They quoted me around $5,000 to do this job, and that is not the shocking part. Yes, it is a Land Rover, so the parts will cost a lot; however, this 'AJ' wanted to replace every single part on the car, around $2,000 for the brakes... excessive. When I requested only the overheating issue, he declined to work on the vehicle at all. He said, "It is a matter of FACT, the rig won't move without the axle." I then told him that I had driven 650 miles from the mountains of British Columbia to get it here, and it did just fine. He laughed at me. He told me it was all or nothing, and to me that is trying to swindle a proper, progressive, citizen of this country out of good money, right when I just moved 3,000 miles across country. I am a veteran and a student. I just moved here to attend University. Perhaps the most infuriating thing that happened, was when I went to pick the truck up, to have it towed, and the mechanics turned it on, reversed and pulled forward about a dozen times to get it out of the garage for the flat bed to get access to it - THE RIG MOVED MATE! The 'rig' or truck MOVED! I saw it drive out of the garage with my own eyes! "It is a matter of FACT, the rig won't move." - AJ at Moss Alley Motors trying to swindle me out of $5,000, when I ordered all the parts I need for the truck to be 100% again for roughly $300.....

I trust Moss Alley with my old but good car.
